Recent Instagram Changes

Instagram is trying to keep up with the ever-evolving social media landscape. Check out two of the most recent Instagram changes that every brand should know.

Recent Instagram Change #1: Subscriptions

Instagram is beginning to test a feature allowing creators to charge subscription fees. According to Instagram, a small group of Instagram users can now directly charge their followers a monthly fee for exclusive content and benefits allowing creators the ability to make a living through its platform.

Meta stated, “With Instagram Subscriptions, creators can develop deeper connections with their most engaged followers and grow their recurring monthly income by giving subscribers access to exclusive content and benefits, all within the same platform where they interact with them already.”

Recent Instagram Change #2: Hate Speech

Instagram will now show suspected hate speech lower in your Instagram feed. Instagram announced the changes via their blog just this week. What exactly does this mean? According to Instagram, the following three things will now happen:

  • “In addition to removing content that goes against our Community Guidelines, we’re now taking stronger action against posts that may contain bullying or hate speech, or that may encourage violence, by showing them lower in Feed and Stories.
  • We will also show potentially upsetting posts lower in your Feed based on your history of reporting content.
  • These changes only impact individual posts, not accounts overall. As always, we only remove posts that break our rules and we tell people if their post has been removed.”

Instagram continued the post by saying, “…we’re always trying to show you content from the accounts you engage with and have the most value to you, while minimizing the likelihood that you come across content that could be upsetting or make you feel unsafe.”
